Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho says his native Portugal have little hope of being crowned European champions.
Portugal can progress to the Euro 2012 quarter-finals with a draw or win in their final group match against the Netherlands on Sunday, but Mourinho remains sceptical about the team s chances.
I don t think Portugal are one of the two three best teams in the competition, Mourinho said on a visit to support the Singapore Olympic Foundation.
But this (is a) short competition with knockout, so Portugal if they reach the quarter-finals, anything can happen.
Mourinho backed reigning European and world champions Spain, who boast five Real Madrid players at the tournament, to reach the final.

England s Lionesses can roar to glory as Sarina Wiegman s host team get their Euro 2022 campaign under way this week, says former international star Sue Smith.
The tournament gets under way when England tackle Austria at Old Trafford in Group A on Wednesday, before they face further tests against Norway in Brighton and Northern Ireland in Southampton.
England are on a remarkable run of form under former Netherlands boss Wiegman, and despite a host of formidable rivals lying in wait, look to be one of the sides to beat this time around.
Smith, a member of the Lionesses squad that finished as runners-up to Germany at Euro 2009, believes the current team have the chance to go the distance, particularly on home soil.
[I ve] got to go with England [as favo…
Atletico Madrid suffered a painful defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League final in 2014, and Diego Godin thinks the experience will assist them in avoiding a repeat on Saturday.
Godin opened the scoring when the two teams faced off for the trophy in Lisbon two years ago but, after Sergio Ramos equaliser in second-half stoppage time, Madrid went on to claim a 4-1 win.
The pair will meet in the final again in Milan on Saturday, and the Uruguayan wants Atletico to use that defeat as inspiration this time around.
Scoring in the final felt great, of course – it was a very nice goal – but we didn t lift the trophy at the end, and that was what mattered, Godin told UEFA.
We lost, but you have to take the positives from defeats like that and learn wh…
Martin Odegaard is hoping the “brutal” way Arsenal lost the Premier League title last season can help them lift the trophy this year.
The Gunners led the way for 248 days during the last campaign before ultimately being caught and passed by eventual champions Manchester City.
Mikel Arteta’s side are once again in among the contenders this season but missed the chance to move back to the summit as they slipped to a 2-0 home defeat to West Ham on Thursday night.
If results go their way, victory at Fulham on New Year’s Eve could still see Arsenal top of the table heading into 2024 – where Odegaard is aiming to go one better than last year.
“Hopefully, we have learnt some lessons from last year. It was a brutal end to the season for us,” he said…
Week 18 closes the book on the NFL regular season but before that story ends, there are plenty of twists and turns to come in these finales.
The last week of the schedule is always a tough one to navigate, especially when you’re planning which NFL Week 18 odds to bet now and which ones to bet later.
We know which teams are playing for playoff positions but what about the motivations of those teams not qualifying for the tournament? And as of this writing, the Week 18 schedule isn’t even set in stone with two Saturday slots to fill and a Sunday nighter. Oh yeah, and COVID.
It’s a bit of a crapshoot in Week 18, but we do our best with the spreads and totals to bet now and the NFL lines you might want to wait on.

While Patrick Mahomes has not had the best of times as of late, he will hope to gift the Kansas City Chiefs a textbook Week 16 odds performance on Christmas Day.
After losing two straight to the Packers and Bills in prime time, Mahomes bounced back last week with a 300+ yard and two touchdown game for the Chiefs. He did, however, have two picks in that contest — bringing his tally to four across the last three games.
Will Mahomes shine against the Las Vegas Raiders in the latest NFL odds, or will Vegas ruin Christmas for the two-time MVP?

We have a divisional clash this Sunday with the Carolina Panthers visiting the New Orleans Saints. Both of these teams come into Week 1 looking to get off to a good start in the NFC South, but with plenty of question marks and doubters.

This NFC South clash is a tale of two coaches with both Carolina Panthers’ head coach Dave Canales and New Orleans Saints’ head coach Dennis Allen desperate to win this one.
For Canales, it would be a strong start to his reign as HC and a …
Tammy Abraham scored twice as Roma put on a counterattacking masterclass to stun Atalanta 4-1 and climb to fifth in Serie A.
José Mourinho’s side finished the game with 29% possession and eight shots to Atalanta’s 17, but they were far more efficient with their chances.
“Yes, I think so,” Mourinho said when asked if it was the best Roma have played this season. “We showed fantastic spirit. The players knew that we couldn’t be in control for 90 minutes. They were strong in every perspective.”

Southampton have rejected Liverpool’s opening bid for Roméo Lavia, thought to have been worth about £35m plus add-ons, with the club holding out for a £50m package for the teenage midfielder.
Lavia shone despite relegation after joining from Manchester City last summer. Liverpool are overhauling their midfield and identified the 19-year-old Belgium midfielder, who also has admirers at Chelsea, as a key target. They are expected to return with a second offer.
